Heritage Walk: Sallim Mattar Mosque
Sallim Mattar Mosque (also known as Masjid Sallim Mattar) serves the Muslim community in the Macpherson Estate, Aljunied, Joo Seng Road, Geylang Bahru, and Muslim working around the Macpherson industrial estate as well as other residents living nearby. Mr. Haady Mattar (Interview #6) has a special familial connection to this religious site: his great-great-grandfather, Mr. Sallim Mattar, being the primary benefactor of the Mosque.
The heritage walk, led by Mr.Haady Mattar, covered how the area has evolved throughout the years, how the function of a mosque in society has evolved over decades, as well as a heritage walk around the geylang area. Students from Singapore American School joined our heritage walk this time.
Audience quote of her experience: “It was pretty good! It was really engaging, and we ended up going around the Geylang area also after the mosque.”
